A $27,500 grant awarded to ADEC from the Wal-Mart Foundation will assist in the development of a training program for “green collar” workers.  ADEC’s Electronics Recycling Services, which includes a training program for people experiencing the challenges of developmental disabilities, has been in operation for just over a year.  The program, located at the ADEC Industries facility in the Elkhart Industrial Park, recycles computers and other electronic items and safely disposes of metal and plastic components that would ordinarily end up in landfills.

“This generous gift will allow many of the people we serve the opportunity to receive ‘green job training’ while simultaneously making sure that many of the computers and electronics items being used in this area are discarded in an environmentally responsible manner.  It’s a win-win for not only the people we serve, but for our community as a whole” said Yonathan Shibru, director of the operation.

ADEC is a nationally accredited not-for-profit organization providing supports and assistance to children and adults experiencing life with a disability.  Serving Elkhart County since 1952, ADEC provides a continuum of supports to more than 1,000 children and adults with disabilities each year and employs a caring team of more than 300.
