Computer Access Training Program

The Computer Access Training (CAT) program provides services for those with visual and physical impairments. Our staff assesses individual abilities and skills to determine the necessary access software and devices to meet their computer use goals. Instruction is conducted in ADEC’s computer lab, or the user’s home or office.

CAT Services include:

  • Assessment of needs
  • Recommendations on computer software and devices
  • Instruction from introductory to advanced users in word processing, e-mail, Internet browsing, basic computer maintenance and notetakers
  • Consultations with Counselors, Families or Groups
  • Demonstration of adaptive technology
  • Recommendations on computer systems purchased for clients

Devices/Programs used:

  • Speech/screen reading programs—Jaws or WindowsEyes
  • Magnification programs—Zoomtext or Magic
  • Adaptive mouse or keyboards
  • Speech Recognition
  • Devices for people with upper body limitations
  • Tectile/Braille displays
  • Notetakers

Referral and funding sources for these services include Indiana Vocational Rehabilitation, the Veterans Administration and area school systems. We also accept self/referral/self-pay clients.
